Tansy Aked

Musical Director

Tansy has been involved with over 40 shows as a Musical Director, Pianist and Keyboard Player, across the West-End, The National Theatre, UK and European tours.  She also composes music for Theatre, TV and Film, and is published by Sony Music.

Tansy’s theatre credits include, for the National Theatre; The Prince's Play (Musical Director), Amy's View, Closer, Money, and Volpone, in the West End; Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, Beauty & the Beast,  Scrooge,  Fame, Hard Times, Dr Dolittle, and Prisoner Cell Block H – The Musical, and numerous first class UK tours such as Evita, Les Miserables, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Rat Pack, La Cage aux Folles, Me & My Girl, Summer Holiday, Pirates of Penzance, The Goodbye Girl, Ruthie Henshall’s concert tour The Magnificent Musicals and the Scandinavian tour of Cats.  

Other theatre credits as Musical Director include; the UK Tours of The Blues Brother, Night Fever and Puttin on the Ritz; in London, Falling Stars (Jermyn St Theatre and recorded for BBC Radio 2), A Christmas Carol (Hackney Empire), A Vision in Scarlet (Bridewell Theatre), The Rivals (Southwark Playhouse), Never Left Alright (Soho Theatre), and in regional theatre; The Canterville Ghost (Bull Theatre, Barnet); Nightingale (Electric Theatre, Guildford) and Entartete Muzik (Theatre Royal, Bath).  Tansy was also Associate Musical Director for the critically acclaimed revivals of Kurt Weill’s One Touch of Venus and Howard Goodall’s Days of Hope (both at the Kings Head Theatre, Islington).  

Tansy has also conducted several high-profile concerts at such renowned concert venues as The Royal Festival Hall, The Queen Elizabeth Hall and St John’s Smith Square, and was recently a featured piano soloist at The Royal Albert Hall.  

Tansy is also the founder and Musical Director for the highly successful West End show band, Too Darn Hot, which features stars from the West End and has an active performance schedule. Sell out concerts performed by Too Darn Hot have included Magic of the Musicals, Best of Broadway & Beyond, The Great British Musical, Hollywood Legends, A Night at the Movies and James Bond.  

Tansy also works extensively with composer Steve Richardson, and together they have composed and arranged music for numerous theatre productions in London and across the UK (too many to list!). They have also composed soundtracks for multi -award winning films, written music for the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky (to name a few), scored music for US documentaries and sitcoms, and composed music tracks for Hollywood film trailers.  Three credits of note include Bridge Jones, The Holiday and Mrs Henderson Presents. They also wrote the theme tune for the new US sitcom Morning Roast. Tansy and Steve are published by Sony Music and their music has been heard as far afield as Australia, Denmark, Hong Kong, US, Japan, South Africa, New Zealand, Poland, Russia, Iceland, Spain, Denmark and even Tanzania!
