Dewi Johnson is a Theatre and Opera director with extensive experience across various theatrical periods and styles, but most known for his devotion to and expertise in Restoration Comedy & 18th Century Comedy of Manners. Dewi is founder and Artistic Director of Foppish Theatre a company specialising in theatre of the 18th Century, which has gained a reputation for producing high quality work that engages audiences with the forgotten gems of the period, as well as facilitating workshops in educational settings.

Directing Credits Include: Playhouse Creatures (Royal Birmingham Conservatoire), Immaculate/Suckers/Arranged Nikah (Birmingham Rep & Sky Comedy), Nell Gwynn (Crescent Theatre), The Fop Reformed (Platform Theatre), Loveplay (DCL), In Praise of Folly (Platform Theatre & Crescent Theatre), The Will (Cockpit Theatre) & Away From Home (Birmingham Fest).

Associate/Assistant Director Credits Include: The Crown Jewels (Garrick Theatre/UK Tour), Linck & Mülhahn (Hampstead Theatre), The Upstart Crow (Apollo Theatre). Three Sat Under the Banyan Tree (Tara Arts/UK Tour), Purcell's King Arthur (Dartington International Festival).

Dewi completed the ‘Stage One Director’s Placement’ at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden – working on the staff director team for the 2017 revival of ‘Il Barbiere di Siviglia’.

Dewi trained at The Drama Centre London on the Integrated Directors course graduating with an MA with Distinction.  He has experience across various theatrical periods and styles, but most known for his devotion to and expertise in Restoration Theatre & 18th Century Comedy of Manners.
