Janet Mooney is a Dramaturg, Script Editor and Writer. Credits include Script Assistant for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (UK Number One Tour, Crossroads Live, directed by Thom Southerland), Dramaturg and Script Advisor for Abrasion (Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2024), Book Writer and Dramaturg for If This Be Sin (bio-musical of Blues singer and LGBTQ+ pioneer Gladys Bentley – in development), Narrative Development and Script Preparation for Marnie & the Kaleidoscope (2020–23), Contextual Research and Script Development for The Navigator (WWII musical, 2012–16) and Script Consultant for Their Finest Hour (2017).
Other work includes freelance writing and development for Thom Southerland (Artistic Director, Charing Cross Theatre), with projects including pitch proposals and scriptwriting for new musicals: She Loves You (featuring music of Lennon & McCartney – Denmark, 2022), Production #6 (based on Charlie Chaplin’s The Great Dictator – Umeda Arts Theatre, Tokyo) and The Pianist (based on the novel by Wladislaw Szpilman – Umeda Arts Theatre, Tokyo).
Academic qualifications include MA in Creative Writing (University of Hertfordshire, 2020/21) and a First-Class BA in English Literature and Creative Writing (University of Hertfordshire, 2018).
