Piper Chantry are a vibrant choreographic duo. Rae Piper, a resourceful and innovative female choreographer, formed the partnership with Paul Chantry after they discovered a shared artistic vision. Piper’s leadership and attention to overall structure and style, supported by Chantry’s eye for detail, offers the perfect choreographic combination. The duo’s efficient and effective approach is valued by directors and producers, as they offer a double set of skills, knowledge, and capacity, but as a single entity.

Piper Chantry creates compelling choreography in a multitude of theatrical genres, from plays and musical theatre to circus and opera. Their work includes the Olivier-nominated David Walliams’ Gangsta GrannyBillionaire Boy, several of the Horrible Histories stage shows , an anniversary commission for the Prince of Belgium and more.

The couple started as pas de deux partners, before progressing to working as co-choreographers and movement directors and founding Chantry Dance – a touring theatrical contemporary ballet company.

Piper and Chantry’s extensive experience and varied backgrounds have made them masters of their art, and they are in demand across a wide variety of theatrical genres for their innovative and exciting creativity.

Chantry’s performance career includes playing in numerous ballets, operas and musicals at Sadler’s Wells, the Royal Opera House and London’s West End. After training at Central School of Ballet, he danced in various contemporary and ballet companies, and worked closely as a soloist with some of the world’s most celebrated choreographers including Javier De Frutos and Will Tuckett.

Piper has enjoyed an extensive performance career, including appearing in productions in London’s West End, Sadler’s Wells, regional UK theatres, and The Royal Opera House working with choreographers such as Lucy Burge, Bill Deamer and Jerry Mitchell. Piper is also a former contortionist and aerial acrobat, performing at notable national and international cabaret and circus venues.

Since working together, Piper and Chantry have embraced their diverse performance careers to inform their distinctive and dynamic choreography.

As well as their choreographic freelance work, Piper and Chantry founded and create productions for Chantry Dance. The company was formed when Piper and Chantry were commissioned through Sadler’s Wells by the Chinese Ministry of Culture to create several pieces for the Chinese Calligraphy, Music and Dance Concert which was then performed on the main stage at Sadler’s Wells. Following this incredible debut, CDC has created numerous works including multiple UK tours, a triple bill in collaboration with Ronald Corp OBE, various major commissions for Arts Festivals such as Gravity Fields, and several dance films including a collaboration with Javier De Frutos.

Theatre choreography credits include:

World Premiere of David Walliams’s Gangsta Granny (Garrick Theatre and several UK Tours). The show was nominated for an OLIVIER AWARD for Best Family Entertainment, and also the winner of Best Home Produced Show from the What’sOn Reader’s Awards. They also choreographed the West End production (Garrick Theatre) and UK Tour of David Walliams’ Billionaire Boy (the West End and several UK Tours), the UK Premiere of The Last Days of Mankind for the Bristol Old Vic Theatre Royal, Birmingham Stage Company’s Horrible Histories: Terrible Tudors & Vile Victorians, Horrible Christmas (UK tours) and Tom’s Midnight Garden (The Old Rep, Birmingham and UK tour). They have also worked internationally in Munich creating choreography for Cherry Docs with BeMe Theatre.

Opera credits include:

The Royal Opera House, the Teatro Dell’Opera Di Roma, Mahogany Opera Group, English Touring Opera and Grange Park Opera. They choreographed The Merry Widow and Die Fledermaus for The Royal Festival Hall, and subsequent revivals for Opera Danube, St John Smith’s Square. Piper and Chantry also choreographed The Magic Flute and La Traviata for The Merry Opera Company, with the latter being nominated for Best Opera, by The Off West End Theatre Awards. Their choreography for English Touring Opera’s Boyhood’s End can be seen on Marquee TV.

Anyone For Tea for award-winning company Les Enfants Terribles, and Shadowbox for BESIX and the Prince of Belgium.

Musical and Pantomime credits include:

Multiple pantomimes for Little Wolf Productions and Derby Arena, including the 2017 award-winning production of Beauty and the Beast, also for Greenwich Theatre, and Sister Act and Our House for Pimlico Opera.
